Longcase clock

1690s–1710s

Fromanteel and Clark company

England

This clock with a walnut case was produced for export by the English company Fromanteel and Clark between 1690 and 1710. It has an unusual mechanism that strikes the half-hours and hours. The clock was in the possession of the heirs of the artist Dmitry Kardovsky and it was believed in the family that it had belonged to Peter the Great’s cabinet secretary Alexei Makarov.
